Jury Awards $172,000,000 in Verdict Against NYC EMTs

A Bronx jury just awarded a $172 million verdict - one of the largest ever in New York state - to 29-year old Tiffany Applewhite. In 1998, when she was only 12, she went into anaphylactic shock after a private nurse gave her a shot of steroids for an eye condition. While her mother and the nurse called 911 right away and an ambulance arrived, the two EMTs came to the scene without essential equipment. They then called for another ambulance to come with the proper equipment instead of bringing this struggling girl to a nearby hospital. By the time she received proper medical treatment, Tiffany was left paralyzed and mute, but fully aware of herself and the world around her. She will require special care and equipment for the rest of her life.
