Bicycle rider suffers serious injury after being struck by a car

Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians in New York are well aware of the congestion and jockeying for space that is inevitable when out on the road. There is an unsaid contract between all parties that everyone will make sure to adhere to the rules of the road in an attempt to keep everyone safe. Even with that, the number of people on the road makes it inevitable that motor vehicle accidents will happen. When they do, it is the responsibility of the driver to stay at the scene to make certain that those involved are not injured and do not need help. Unfortunately, along with these accidents, some might decide to depart the scene, making it into a hit and run.

A bicyclist suffered serious injuries after being struck by a car. The driver of the car fled the scene after the car crash. The driver, a 54-year-old man, was arrested for the hit and run. The accident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. after which the driver was caught when his vehicle broke down and police found him. The 58-year-old bicyclist was hospitalized. The driver faces multiple charges for departing the scene of the accident.

There are many different causes and consequences of a car crash and they can be exacerbated when it involves a motor vehicle and a person who is not accorded the protection of being in another vehicle. A bicycle rider or pedestrian is exceedingly vulnerable to injury and death when in an accident with a car. The aftermath can cause many problems for the person who was hurt including massive medical expenses, the need for rehabilitative care and perhaps an inability to function normally. The person might not be able to return to work and could need care for an extended period if not forever.

When there is an accident of this kind, the injured party and his or her family must be cognizant of the long-term effects of being a car accident victim. Protecting themselves with legal help from an attorney is the first step to achieving justice after a hit and run and that is the call that should be made immediately.
